Chronology
Set in the utopian Piltover and the oppressed underworld of Zaun, it tells the story of two iconic League of Legends champions and the power that will tear them apart. In 2013, Fortiche Productions made a music video for Riot called “Get Jinxed,” featuring Jinx and the city of Piltover. Riot was so impressed with the work that they asked Fortiche to create an animated series, which took several years.

After the first season was released, Riot announced that a second season would be made and that it would take less time to produce. EnemyCreators: Dan Reynolds, Wayne Sermon, Ben McKee, Daniel Platzman, Robin Fredriksson, Mattias Larsson, Justin Tranter, J.I.D. (as Destin Route).Made by Imagine Dragons ft J.I.D., Arcane tells the story of two young orphaned sisters who grow up and get into trouble in the dual cities of Zaun and Piltover.
The animation is simply exquisite
The series is based on the video game League of Legends, and while it throws you right into that fictional world, the necessary time and attention is taken to set up the locations and characters in a commendable “show, don’t tell” manner. The solid character development and world building means that it’s a thoroughly enjoyable watch, even if you know nothing about the game. As an anime fan, I find the animation in Arcane to be far superior to anything I’ve ever seen in an animated series.
There’s an incredible attention to detail
It’s clear that no artistic talent or expense was spared to bring the world of Runeterra to life. Great soundtrack, great acting, and an engaging story that doesn’t mince words when it comes to violence and more adult themes. Only the first three episodes have been released so far, and I can’t wait to see what else they have in store for us!
